When Two Cultures Meet

North Asia

Think cultural integration is easier when both organizations come from Asia? Not necessarily. Following a cross-border acquisition, declining employee engagement revealed the hidden complexities of integrating two seemingly similar cultures. This project uncovered the cultural and human dynamics behind the challenge and translated them into practical solutions for organizational integration.
Project Goal
Understand the drivers of declining employee engagement following a cross-border acquisition and identify culturally relevant solutions to support organizational integration.
Approach
Combined cultural analysis with employee research to uncover both the visible and invisible forces shaping workplace expectations, communication, and engagement across the two organizations.
Outcome
Delivered a series of culturally grounded interventions spanning communication, performance management, and organizational development. The work also provided a practical guide for leadership teams to navigate ongoing integration and sustain employee engagement.
The Big WoW
Cultural similarity can be deceptive. When two high-context cultures come together, shared values often mask deeper differences in expectations, communication, and ways of working. Winning hearts can be far more challenging than aligning processes.
